3E Aboriginal Artwork

This term Stage 2 have been looking at Aboriginal artwork, in particular work from the urban Aboriginal artist Bronwyn Bancroft.

Initially we studied and practised drawing various Aboriginal symbols. This was followed by creating our own Aboriginal artwork using these symbols.

After reading Bronwyn Bancroft’s book ‘Patterns of Australia’ we started to create our own interpretation of the Patterns of the Reef.

We used watercolour paints on our artworks. First, we whitewashed our background with shades of blue and white. Next, we drew various wildlife seen in the reef and painted our creatures using a fine tip brush. We added traditional Aboriginal features ie dots and stripes and outlined each creature using black paint. Our final touch will be designing the current waves and adding them to produce a 3D effect on our artwork.

We all love our afternoons painting and producing our unique artworks.
